Born To Be A Cowboy

I Was Born To Be A Cowboy
Written and recorded by Red Steagall

I wake up every morning in a different place and time
I thank God I can live the way I choose
Though at times the road gets lonely I can't settle down
I gotta win cause I can't stand to lose

I was born to be a cowboy full of dreams and broken bones
God it ain't an easy life but it's the one I chose
And I was born to be a champion I can feel it in my soul
Cause every time I win it just keeps driving me on...

I broke my neck in Frisco and my arm in San Antone
I left a part of me in every place I've been
Boy you'd thing I'd learn my lesson give it up and go
back home But I can't quit the will to win's to strong
Every time I win it just keeps driving me on...
I was born to be a cowboy full of dreams and broken bones
God it ain't an easy life but it's the one I chose
And I was born to be a champion I can feel it in my soul
Cause every time I win it just keeps driving me on...
How many little boys of the 30's,40's,50's and 60's having
watched the great silver screen cowboys felt the draw to be
one of the best? To live in an age where good always trumped
evil. Where the good guy won and always got the girl.
Tragically some of these great young hero's put there beliefs
into practice in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and in Iraq, Afghanistan
and hundreds of other places we may never know of.
From California, to North Carolina, Canada, to Texas; And
everywhere in between and around the world. Our hero's have
always been cowboys. But that's another song. ~RLM
