Reckless Ride of Faith

She dips her prow into the sea, like a thoroughbred in the rain. Her sails like silken mane are blown about by gale force winds, her lines begin to strain.Still she sails on in reckless a ride of faith.

The men who stride her windswept decks, have made this ride before. They hold their course with steadfast heart, knowing within their weathered hearts, there are lives beyond the storm. So she holds her course in reckless a ride of faith.

The call had come of those in peril, so she left her home and hearth. To seek and save the poor lost souls who strove upon the sea. Knowing in her heart and soul, that she can set them free. Thus she sails on in a reckless ride of faith.

They reach the floundering boat of life, of many few survive. They reach out hands with calm assurance, these will go home alive. They stow them warm beneath her breast, they pull with all their might. She heeds their call, her helm responds. She turns abreast the waves. To bring her crew and passengers home, from a reckless ride of faith.

Dedicated to those who served in United States Life Saving Service. (1848-1915)
