The
peanut leaves in the field behind the house glisten with the shimmer of the recent
summer storm. Each leaf holding pearl drops of life within its fold.
The
lightening crackled from heaven like fiery spears of intense heat, striking the
earth with licking flames of fire.
The
Thunder roared out of Zion like the voice of the Almighty who for His own reasoning
had found displeasure in His creation.
The
rain fell in a magnificent de3luge reminiscent of what would have created that
great flood of antiquity. It was large, hard, pelting, rain; the kind of rain
that soaks the clothing and wrinkles the skin; making you shiver even in the
summer heat and humidity.
Suddenly,
it’s gone. Though the sky is still dark, all is quiet. Not even the sound of
the birds. Just the sound of the tap, tap, tap, of the remaining drops falling
from the leaves of the pine tree on the old tin roof.
The
grass is green and healthy, wet with the passage of the recent storm. The old
dirt track that runs along the field is muddy and rivulets of water drain away
to a place of their own.
Each
small trickle embarking on a journey to parts unknown. Their journey may be
seeking a ditch, stream, creek or a river.
Or,
could it be that they settle and are drawn into the ground to be recycled by
nature another day?
The
thunder continues off and on. It grows evermore quiet and the storm travels
farther away. Still there is the tap, tap, tap, of the drops of residual rain.
The
sky across the field is lit by the fading light of the sun as it begins to wane.
A soft haze falls upon the ground. The golden rays of the fading light, highlight
field with a supernatural intensity. This is a Summer Storm through my eyes. ~rlm
Stunning imagery. I felt I was there. In fact, this is almost a reflection of what I experienced yesterday. I wish I could write prose like this, so that I could describe what I experienced. Maybe I'll give it a try. You, sir, are awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou Miss are very kind. Thank you.
DeleteAbsolutely mind boggling, the descriptive adjectives that are in your mind! You should write books! I would read everyone if I knew where to purchase them. Think about it......you are holding back on sharing these lovely writings with so many of mankind. Another awesome read, Rusty.
