The Things I Sometimes Miss

There are days I miss the prairies, the grassland and the plains. I seek no destination. I just miss the open spaces; the smell of purple sage. I like feeling my horse beneath me. Sometimes I miss riding the open range

I miss the cactus flowers. Sleeping under stars. I miss watching sunsets in colors of oranges, pinks, blues and dusky browns. A campfire, coffee brewing, The smell of bacon frying  and a small rippling stream.

I miss the smell of horses, of tack and leather too. The sounds of cattle lowing; and every sunrise always looks new and clean. Desert birds of Paradise, in lavender whites and green. Great Saguaro Cactus, standing sentinels of all that can be seen.

There are so many, many things I miss about the plains and desert. My home that I love. But nothing do I miss as much, as my western lady love.

  1. You cause me to also hunger for the 'Old West', I can see it and smell it! I can hear the horses neigh and stomp their hooves in the prairie dirt. It is a beautiful place to miss, especially if you left a Western Love out there on the prairie.

    1. I and my love enjoyed the immense vastness of the west. I've always wanted to live there. To be a riding, roping, living, cowboy. But I never followed that path. I followed another, which became quite fulfilling in it's own way.
Thank you for your sweet comments.
