The First Day of Christmas

This is the first day of Christmas. It's cold and looks like snow.
But looks are deceiving here in the southeastern part of  North Carolina. Living here at the beach it is even less likely to for the weather to deliver any "white stuff." The salt air helps diffuse any chance of snow.
Now that I have penned these immortal words, it will probably snow before Christmas. Fate operates that way. If you speak it, it will probably happen in just the opposite manner. But irregardless of whether we see snow or not, Christmas will still arrive on time.
Children will cling to their hearts desires for a few days and then throw them aside like yesterdays trash. People will lose sight of the Christmas spirit (unless it was hidden in the cabinet in a bottle) and begin to focus on a soon to arrive New Year.
That's the spirit of the "holidays."
