There are no promises made at birth
that suggests the idea that we should seek or find “happiness,”
in this life. A perfect state of “happiness” is vanity of the
foolish heart.
Even the great wise men of the Bible in
ages past; David, Solomon, Augustine, Spurgeon, Moody, Tozer and many
more denote happiness as not what we eat or drink, but rather a state
of “spiritual” well being.
Happiness is not derived by what we
possess, but by who and what we are. Who we are, or what we are,
health officials will tell us, is what we eat and what we drink; in essence, how
we exercise and maintain our bodies.
Psychologist maintain that our state of
happiness and fulfillment is a state of mind. They say that it is the way we think; positive or negative. Basically, the things we mentally think on; good thoughts
or evil thoughts.
And “truth” to a certain
extent bears this out. For did not the wise man say: “for as he
thinks in his heart, so is he?” The same wise sage also
said:“he that trusts his own heart is a fool... ,” therefore
we see even our own thoughts can be deceiving.
But do these statements answer the
question? Who are we? They do, in part. Happiness defined is a summation all of these ideals and more, but it is also based upon
what you are to yourself. Are you “true” to yourself?
“Honest” with yourself? Do you “love” yourself?
See “goodness” in yourself?
What we are to ourselves can define
who and what we are to others; our friends, neighbors, acquaintances and even our enemies. It has been said: “you are
what you eat,” let me take that one step farther. We are to
others, what we are to ourselves.

So true.....we really must be honest with ourselves and love ourselves before we can be honest with others and love others.
